Groundhog Day

Today is a very special day here, in Sun Valley and also in Pensylvania. It's the groundhog day! Groundhog is an animal and the americans have a kind of legend about it. They say that if groundhog gets out to day and see his shadow we are going to have more six weeks of winter. But, if groundhog gets out and doesn't see his shadow the winter is going to be normal.

Today was a very cold day. We got something around 3 F degree in the morning and for night we are expecting something around -25 Celsius degree.

Arriving at the Community School today we saw the Headmaster of the school Andy. He was wearing groundhog's costumes and receiving everybody at the school. It was very funny.
Take a look:

As today is a special day here, at the community school instead of the usual lunch, we had a BBQ (what I discovered is a barbecue). But it was not a barbecue as we know. For instance, we had hamburguer, chips, cookies and hot chocolate at the BBQ (By the way, American cookies are really delicious!).

After the barbecue, the students of The Community School had some games at snow, what was pretty amazing. Unfortunetly we weren't able to see all the games they were playing, we were freezing and preferred to stay inside. Melina even couldn't feel her toes, but for situations like this, Americans have a kind of interesting sticker that gets hot in order to make your feet, toes, hands, etc warmer. Isn't it outstanding???!

Today I went to classes of the 11th grade. As my host sister wasn't feeling well, she wasn't able to go to school, so I attended the classes of Melina's host sister Meredith. Today I had American Dream (Literature), Spanish, French, Math, History and Physics.

American Dream class was very interesting. They were making relations between the reading of "Middlesex" and some pictures and painting. Analysing the pictures was something very good.

At Spanish class the students were talking about their parents, who they met each other and showing some pictures of them. They speak Spanish very well! They have classes of Spanish with teacher Pilar. She is from Spain and she visited our school last year, when at the Spanish class at the School we enterviewed her.

History class was awesome! The class was divided in groups and each of them was representing the different views of different people during the abolition of slavery in the USA. So, there was representatives of Abraham Lincoln and some other important figures of American history. This done they did a debate.

Physics class was about some astronomy things as Earth Revolution, etc.

That's all folks! =D

See you !
